UTC Students Urge Pro Hamas Resolution

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) has joined the ranks of institutions that are filled with activists instead of students’ worthy of taxpayer funding.  In particular the Student Government Association (SGA) members that are embracing the ideology of the Muslim Student Organization (MSA). While the students may not view this group as the dangerous, terror linked group it is, perhaps the parents and taxpayers will.

Following what seems to be an antisemitic trend on college campuses, many members of the SGA have voted for a resolution that will support two Gazan students financially due to the situation in their home country, and how unfair it is that all colleges in Gaza have been destroyed, yet the many in Israel have not.

Another disturbing aspect of this resolution is that is comes from members of the Muslim Student Association, the Muslim Brotherhoods second largest front group in the United States. The Muslim Brotherhood has been designated a terrorist organization in countries across the Middle East.

In 2008 in Dallas Texas evidence was presented to a court during a trial against the Holy Land Foundation, which was funding Hamas. That evidence included a manifesto titled “An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Group in North America”.  The Muslim Student Association is listed as the number 2 group that is “A list of our organizations and the organizations of our friends [Imagine if t they all march according to one plan!!!]”

The MSA uses this mission statement “The Muslim Students Association at UTC is a faith-based organization that seeks to unite our community and create an atmosphere of knowledge and understanding through the use of education”.

 The MSA was founded in 1963 by international students with the goal of “spreading Islam in North America”. Otherwise known as dawah, or the proselytizing of Islam.

The mere fact our American institutions have embraced and allowed a terror linked organization to flourish on their campuses is one danger, but the continued acceptance of anti-Israel rhetoric by the MSA and others such as Students for Justice in Palestine is a loaded powder keg which needs to be extinguished.

The following is the resolution presented to the Chancellor of UTC, Steven R. Angle. At this time, Chancellor Angle has not signed this resolution.

It’s sad to hear how ignorant many of today’s college students are, and their inability to be articulate regarding a controversial topic. Rather its apparent they only use the example of Gaza’s colleges being ruined, but Israel’s are not .Thanks to those that did understand the gravity of the subject, and objected to the resolution. 

College campuses across America have become home to blatant anti- Israel sentiment, and pro Hamas agenda. Funding for Gazan students that are in the United States should not be given a status designation, while other students have the same need. Call Chancellor Steven Angle  (423-425-4141) and advise him to not sign this resolution, which will undoubtedly cause more division among students, and ultimately Americans.

Rep. Dennis Powers’ Pointless Resolution

You really can’t make this stuff up. Powers’ resolution HJR840 is a waste of time and paper. Legislators’ efforts would, without question, be better spent repealing the gratuitous Shane Reeves law which incentivizes Biden’s migrants and Obama’s DACAs – all of whom do not have any lawful immigration status, from settling in Tennessee.

Among the most inane parts of Powers’ resolution is recommending to Congress that to “combat illegal immigration”, they should pass a law that works like this:

(1) An illegal alien should be given a one-year grace period in which to order his or her affairs, leave the United States, and return to his or her country of lawful residence.
and then,
(2) If an illegal alien complies with these provisions, that person should be allowed to apply for legal readmission into the United States.

The first and most important question for Rep. Powers specifically is, who does he consider to be an “illegal alien”?

Last year Powers had his bill HB1247 in committee. The bill was intended to prohibit illegal aliens from living on state-owned property. During the March 29, 2023, committee hearing, a DACA recipient who, under federal immigration law has no lawful immigration status, complained to the committee that the bill would prohibit her from living in a state college dorm.

Rep. Rebecca Alexander who showed that she has swallowed the TIRRC kool-aid and knows nothing about DACA, asked, “so if you have DACA, then you are not considered illegal, is that correct?”

The TIRRC advocate responded that “DACA students currently have a legal status”. Except they don’t.

In fact, the U.S. Citizens & Immigration Services (USCIS) states clearly about DACA that, “deferred action does not confer lawful immigration status”.

Powers then made it clear that he wants to protect DACA recipients and any other illegal aliens who are “documented” and are here “legally”. Huh?

The rules and criteria required to be approved for the DACA two-year temporary deferral from deportation requires that they prove that they were in the U.S. with no lawful immigration status when Obama put the legally invalid DACA program in place.

DACA grantees are removable at any time and do not have any lawful immigration status under federal immigration law and Congress has not decided to give them any. They are by definition, illegal aliens.

This year Rep. Jake McCalmon has the House companion bill, HB2774, to Ferrell Haile’s bill on illegal immigration. That bill has a comprehensive and accurate definition of “illegal alien” based on immigration status and which specifically includes anyone granted deferred deportation which includes DACA.

Rebecca Alexander has signed on as a co-sponsor to McCalmon’s bill. Does she see herself coming and going?

The bumbling and fumbling that goes on with legislators when it comes to illegal immigration is simply pathetic.

So, regarding Powers’ HJR840, inquiring minds want to know, how are you finding these illegal aliens that you think should self-deport? Is there any time limit for living here in violation of the law, say like five years, ten years or more, that would disqualify them from legally re-entering the U.S.? Are you planning to create an exception for DACA?

Are you, Rep. Powers going to support Rep. McCalmon’s bill on illegal immigration even though it outs your protected DACA recipients as illegal aliens?

Another TN GOP Immigration Bill That Does a lot of NOTHING

 

It may be that the only thing SB2158/HB2774 does is show how worried Ferrell Haile is about winning his primary election.

The fake conservative Haile has a strong primary opponent who has the added bonus of being endorsed by the proven conservative John Rich.

So because Haile has voted to reward illegal aliens with the state public benefits of in-state tuition (the 2015 bill that passed the Senate but failed in House by a single vote), and the more recent reward of commercial and professional licenses, he now has to pretend that he really is opposed to endorsing Biden’s agenda on illegal immigration.

Haile’s SB2158 is going to require all the state agencies which btw, are funded by the legislature’s appropriations, to tell the legislature how much illegal immigration costs the state.

Does this mean that the legislature plans to send Biden a bill?

But Haile’s real hypocrisy or the fact that he really doesn’t know squat when he votes on immigration related bills and just does follows the marching order from Randy McNally, Jack Johnson, the NFIB or the Chamber, is exposed in his new bill.

Haile’s new bill would add yet another definition of “illegal alien” to the Tennessee Code. The bill says:

(g) As used in this section: (1) “Illegal alien” means an alien as defined in 8 U.S.C. § 101(a)(3), who is present in the United States without lawful immigration status and therefore subject to removal pursuant to federal law. An alien granted parole under 8 U.S.C. § 1182(d)(5), temporary protected status, deferred action, deferred enforced departure, or similar exercise of administrative grace or prosecutorial discretion is not deemed to have lawful immigration status;

These are the very same “illegal alien[s]” that in 2022, Haile voted to give them state public benefits.

For example, “deferred action” in Haile’s definition applies to DACA recipients. The DACA and temporary protected status folks were the two groups of illegal aliens who Shane Reeves told the Senate were the intended beneficiaries of his 2022 commercial and professional licensing bill.

Never mind that Reeve’s bill, now law, rewards many other groups who have no lawful immigration status because his law applies to any illegal alien who has work authorization.

Haile’s definition of illegal alien also includes the migrants granted “parole” by the Biden administration’s gross abuse of the discretionary parole authority. What Haile and his cronies may not be prepared for though is the dollars and cents response likely to be generated by the very emboldened pro-illegal immigration groups in Tennessee. As far back as 2016, pro-legal and illegal advocacy groups like the Republican heavy Partnership for a New American Economy (later shorted to New American Economy), were churning out state reports to show how much money the legal immigrants and the “undocumented”, aka, migrants without lawful immigration status, were generating for state coffers.

For example, the 2016 NAE Tennessee report says that over 10,000 “undocumented entrepreneurs” generated $244.3 million dollars and overall in 2014, Tennessee’s “undocumented immigrants” earned $2.1 billion dollars, paying the tidy sum of $71.1 million dollars in state and local taxes, “leaving them with $1.8 B in spending power.”

Now of course this report says nothing about the remittance money that diverts a large portion of that discretionary cash. Has anyone’s state legislator ever mentioned the $625 million in 2020 and $748 million in 2021, that permanently left Tennessee’s economy in overseas remittances?

The American Immigration Council (AIC) which advocates for legalizing illegal aliens, issued its own report regarding “immigrants” in Tennessee. Their report claims that the subset of “undocumented” have paid $267.1 million in taxes with $104.2 million going to state and local taxes leaving these same households with $2.5 billion in spending power.

Of course what’s not clear from any of these reports is how much of the “spending power” is recycled public assistance which illegal aliens who have U.S. born children are able to access along with tax breaks like the child tax credit.

On the House side, freshman legislator Jake McCalmon (R-Franklin) is carrying HB2774, the companion bill to Haile’s bill.

McCalmon’s bill has a bunch of co-sponsors including several, who, like Haile, voted in 2022, to give illegal aliens the state public benefit of commercial and professional licenses. Just like Haile, House members Rebecca Alexander, Michele Carringer, Bud Hulsey, Iris Rudder and Clark Boyd, are now supporting a bill in which they effectively admit that the same groups they call out as “illegal aliens” and who they think cost the state money, are the very same ones they rewarded in 2022.

OH (Ferrell) Haile NOOOOOOO!

Haile is another uber liberal Republican running for re-election to his state Senate seat. He should be sweating because he has an uber CONSERVATIVE  primary challenger in Chris Spencer who is endorsed by the uber CONSERVATIVE John Rich along with other known solid conservatives.

YAY, YAY, AND MORE YAY!

And Haile should be very worried because he cannot either hide, deny or justify his terrible, anti-conservative vote record.

Incentivizing illegal immigration and rewarding state public benefits to people who have no lawful immigration status – Ferrell Haile is as bad as the blue state governor of Massachusetts whose program of “tuition equity” will give college financial aid to illegal aliens or the GOP leadership in the U.S. Senate whose leaked draft border deal with the White House would continue releasing illegal border crossers, providing them with work permits and the continued abuse of granting parole which Tennessee AG Skrmetti has sued to stop.

Tennessee’s Haile is just as bad as his Senate comrade Becky Duncan Massey. 

Haile is just another uber liberal Republican who boasts about being “recognized with a perfect voting record for supporting small businesses by the National Federation of Independent Business organization.”

NFIB, along with the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce were among the lobbyists pushing the Shane Reeves bill awarding the state public benefit of commercial and professional licenses for anyone with federal work authorization even if they have no lawful immigration status.

Haile’s “perfect [NFIB] voting record” included voting YES for SB2464, the bill signed into law by Bill Lee. This may be the single worst bill passed by Republicans which abets the disastrous and destructive immigration policies and practices of the Biden administration.

One year after Haile was crowned “champion of commerce” by the TN Chamber of Commerce, he voted YES for the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce supported bill (SB612), giving the state public benefit of in-state tuition to students without lawful immigration status.

Anti-parent vaccine bill – it gets even worse for Haile. In 2020, Haile answered some of Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection questions including this one:

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
His response – “Truth, honesty, and integrity”.

So “truth, honesty and integrity” must be the reason that Haile, as vice-chair of the Senate Health & Welfare Committee, voted YES for the Richard Briggs HPV vaccine bill that would have authorized and expanded the options for healthcare providers to not just treat minors for STDs, but to provide “treatment to a minor to prevent STDs, without the knowledge or consent of the parents or legal guardians of the minor.”

The treatment to prevent STDs was exposed in the House to include giving the HPV vaccine to a minor without parental knowledge or consent.

Don’t for one minute forget that Becky Massey, another member of the Senate Health & Welfare Committee, also voted for this bill.

This bill alone, should be the one the ends the political careers of both Massey and Haile.

A Conservative is Running Against Bill Lee’s Endorsed Liberal Republican State Sen. Becky Duncan Massey

Becky Duncan Massey has voted to reward illegal aliens and against parental rights – keep reading.

On August 1, 2024, conservative candidate Monica Irvine https://monicairvine.com/ is planning to primary the lefty Republican state Sen. Becky Duncan Massey.

Coming from a long line of Tennessee politicians, Duncan Massey’s first run for the state senate, was more like inheriting her political due. Of course Duncan Massey pretends that her tight connections with the ELITES of East Tennessee (EETs) haven’t figured into her own election wins.

Why would the common man think that being connected to the Haslams, didn’t matter? Surely it didn’t make a difference in Duncan Massey’s name recognition that her father John Duncan was Knoxville’s mayor for five years, followed by a 23-year stint (1965-1988), in the U.S. House of Representatives, and then have that seat inherited and occupied by Massey’s brother for another ten years.

First elected in 2011, Duncan Massey serves as the senator for District 6 which covers Knoxville and Knox County.

2011 is the same year that Bill Haslam was elected governor. And to no great surprise about how the EETs operate, he was endorsed by Becky’s dad, then sitting Congressman, John Duncan. Haslam named Duncan as an honorary campaign co-chair.

This past October, Massey announced that she will run for re-election to the Tennessee State Senate. The next month and right on cue, Bill Lee reportedly headlined a fundraiser for her.

Of course Bill Lee wants more lefty Republicans like himself but to no great surprise, there is likely an even more important quid pro quo at work.

Guess who now chairs the Senate Transportation Committee?

In 2017, Duncan Massey was just a member of the Senate Transportation Committee. That was the year of Bill Haslam’s “IMPROVE Act” which only passed with legislator sleight of hand in both the House and Senate.

Haslam’s gift to Tennesseans was a 7 cents per gallon tax increase on gasoline and a 12 cents per diesel gallon tax increase.

Predictably, Duncan Massey was a YES vote all the way, including the shenanigans in the Senate committee.

Now Massey is the Chair of the Senate Transportation & Safety Committee and again, predictably, helped push through Bill Lee’s “Transportation Modernization Act”. This $$$ pet project of Lee’s includes the “choice” toll lanes so you can pay more to use the roads you are already taxed to pay for, to get to work on time. And to help put Tennessee on the globalist map, “choice lanes” will use public-private partnerships.  

Elitist Liberal Massey has a history of troubling votes

In 2015, Massey voted to give the state public benefit of in-state college tuition to illegal aliens like DACA recipients. Massey was a YES vote in the Senate. (SB612). Republicans were just as bad in the House but failed to pass it on the floor by a single vote.

Haslam was a BIG supporter of wanting to reward people without any lawful immigration status (like DACA), with state public benefits. While multiple other in-state tuition bills floundered over the years, there is little doubt that when given the opportunity, Massey would have been a YES vote.

Predictably, Massey was a YES vote on the Shane Reeves commercial and professional licensing bill rewarding anyone with unlawful immigration status and work authorization, with access to this state public benefit (SB2464). SB148 was of course filed as a caption bill because the actual language and intent of the bill was so heinous that had it been publicly known from the time it was filed, it would most likely have failed in the Senate committee. As it was, once the actual language and intent of the bill was revealed in the House, it was stopped.

Massey and Briggs both promote themselves as “conservatives”.

Massey’s website claims she reflects “family values” and “your values” which could be true if you support rewarding illegal immigration and eroding a parent/guardian’s rights to protect and care for their minor children.

In the House, Bob Ramsey was the HPV vaccine bill sponsor and it was rumored that this bill helped kill his political career which started when he was first elected to the general assembly in 2009.

Massey was first elected in 2011 – the HPV vaccine bill should also end her political career.

In July 2023, Massey reported having just under $500,000 in her campaign fund. And yet Bill Lee still needed to endorse and help fundraise for her???? Makes absolutely no sense unless Massey has plans beyond the state Senate.

Nothing changes unless the players in the General Assembly change. Send Monica Irvine a few bucks and help her oust the ELITIST liberal Becky Duncan Massey.

Will Someone Please Run Against Shane Reeves?

And win.

No different than just about every would-be Tennessee politician who runs as a Republican, Reeves claimed to be a “conservative” and opposed to illegal immigration.

In fact, Reeves goes further on the illegal immigration issue as posted on his “Reeves State Senate” website, claiming that he is “fighting to stop illegal immigration in Tennessee.” https://www.reevesfortn.com/the-issues/

A worthy question for his voting constituents would be: how does sponsoring and passing legislation rewarding people who don’t have lawful immigration status (meaning they are illegal aliens under the controlling federal law as determined by Congress) with state issued commercial and professional licenses, help stop illegal immigration in Tennessee?

Worse yet, it sounds like Reeves knew that the Obama DACA beneficiaries who were the main target of his bill, have absolutely none, zero, nada, lawful immigration status. On the Senate floor, Reeves was asked whether people covered by his bill are here illegally. Not surprisingly, he side-stepped the question but admitted that the bill “does not change anyone’s immigration status”.

Then he pulled out the open border advocates’ favorite feint to the left to help confuse his colleagues and said that DACA recipients are “lawfully present”. Even the Biden administration has admitted that “lawful presence” for DACA recipients does not give them any lawful immigration status.

Almost a full year before Reeves decided to reward illegal aliens living in and/or arriving to Tennessee, a federal district court in Texas in a 70+ page, detailed opinion, ruled that the Obama DACA program was procedurally and substantively invalid and violates federal immigration law. After the ruling was affirmed by the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, Biden’s Dept. of Homeland Security issued a new rule on DACA.

The new rule was reported by the Center for Immigration Studies to be almost identical to the original Obama administration rule. More importantly, the new Biden rule stated unequivocally that lawful presence (used by Reeves to confuse his colleagues), is only a specialized term of art distinct from lawful status, that DACA recipients only have a temporary two-year grant of deferred deportation, remain inadmissible illegal aliens subject to removal, and are not considered lawfully present under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). From page 16 of the new Biden administration rule for DACA:

a noncitizen who has been granted deferred action is considered “lawfully present”—a specialized term of art that does not in any way confer “lawful status” or authorization to remain in the United States https://public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2022-18401.pdf

Maybe he thought his constituents wouldn’t appreciate his campaign platform flip-flop? For sure though the NFIB (small business lobby) which lobbied this bill along with the TN Chamber of Commerce was probably thrilled that he fulfilled his commitment to them.

The secret no-parents-need-to-know-or-consent vaccine bill for minors

Given that Reeves apparently wasn’t concerned about transparency with his own bill, it didn’t stop him from voting for not one, but two bills which taken together, authorized dentists and other licensed healthcare providers to administer the HPV vaccine to minors without parental knowledge or consent. Once the intent of these bills became known (and the likely negative public reaction), bill sponsor Sen. Bill Powers added consent from the parent or legal guardian to his bill before a dentist could administer the vaccine.

Sen. Richard Briggs who sponsored the other bill which authorized certain licensed healthcare providers to give the HPV vaccine to a minor without consent from a parent or legal guardian was not changed to include consent. https://klp.wnv.mybluehost.me/tennessees-elected-gop-are-redefining-the-word-conservative/

Both bills were recommended for passage and scheduling to go to the Senate floor but never made it because they were both taken off notice in the House.

Both Briggs and Powers were co-sponsors of Reeves’ licenses for illegal aliens bill and Reeves as a member of the Senate Health Committee voted for both HPV bills.

During this last legislative session Reeves sponsored a bill to enlarge the scope of practice of pharmacists like himself. The bill, SB869, would essentially let pharmacists stand in place of a physician for purposes of prescribing certain types of medications if the pharmacist decides the person needs it.

Included in the expanded list constituting the “practice of pharmacy”, are “[a]gents for active immunization when prescribed for susceptible individuals who are six (6) years of age or older for the protection from communicable disease”.

Since the HPV bills were never passed, is it possible that Reeves’ expanded pharmacy practice bill is the new back door to make this happen? The bill is still pending in the Senate Health & Welfare Committee where Reeves serves as (the gender neutral) 2nd vice-chairperson.

Is this really the type of representation voters of District 14 want or deserve?

Vanderbilt University Bribed a Jew-Hater With Fully Paid Tuition

Several university chapters of the National Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) organization have this week, publicly voiced unwavering support for Hamas and for the barbaric murdering of Israeli civilians, butchering of families, decapitating babies, the elderly and the taking of hostages which include young children.

SJP’s co-founder, Hatem Bazian came as a college student to the U.S. from the Hamas stronghold of Nablus in the West Bank. He brought his Islamic Jew-hatred with him and created the SJP  campus hate group.  Across U.S. campuses, SJP’s chapters activities and actions, along with the group’s DNA as pictured below, make the group ineligible for chartering as a campus student organization. 

And yet, campus administrations, too many of which have failed to condemn the SJP-supported Hamas murdering of civilians, and too many of which ignore the antisemitism on their campuses, willingly look the other way and let these Jew-hating groups operate with administration support.

UT-Knoxville had an SJP chapter as early as 2013. 

In fact, it wasn’t that long ago that Vanderbilt University had a SJP chapter launched by Hytham Al-Hindi, who, as a Vanderbilt Ingram Scholar would have his undergraduate degree tuition fully paid for.

 

In exchange for the $160,000 plus in free education, Vanderbilt was going to get its own Jew-hating, HAMAS- connected Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) student organization, started by Al-Hindi.

Who was Hytham Al-Hindi and what are his motives to align with SJP?

Hytham Al-Hindi hailed from Jonesboro, Arkansas. His father, Dr. Ahmad Al-Hindi is a cardiologist who graduated from Jordan University of Science & Technology in northern Jordan, the country presumed to be where Dr. Al-Hindi immigrated from to the U.S.

In 2008, about 3.5 million people in Jordan were believed to be of Palestinian ancestry. Is Dr. Al-Hindi’s ancestry Palestinian? Does Dr. Al-Hindi have ties to the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan? Is he an anti-Israel sympathizer? Does he have political views that may have influenced his son?

Hytham Al-Hindi’s Ingram Scholars bio documents his high engagement with the immigrant and refugee populations in Nashville. He volunteered with the refugee resettlement agency NICE (Nashville International Center for Empowerment), that was started by a former refugee turned government contractor “entrepeneur.” (Remember this when the propagandists tell you how great it is that refugees come and start businesses.)

Hytham’s facebook page looked like the who’s who of Muslim Brotherhood organizations. His listed “favorites” included:

Since he was starting an SJP chapter at Vanderbilt, it’s no surprise that he also listed as “favorites” some of the most aggressive and virulent leftist anti-Israel and Jew-hating individuals and organizations that promote the BDS (boycott, divestment and sanctions movement against Israel). After all, demonization and delegitimization of Israel along with promoting BDS is the core belief of SJP:

  • Angela Davis – former Black Panther party member and Communist
  • Noam Chomsky – “America is worse than Nazi Germany”
  • Rachel Corrie Foundation

The end goal of the BDS campaign is to eliminate the State of Israel since its existence is hateful to Hamas, Iran and other Arab countries that chosen to support Hamas and Hezbollah terrorism. When pro-BDS and pro-Hamas agitators chant “from the river to the sea Palestine will be free” they are saying that their vision is that there will be no Israel between the Jordan River and Mediterranean—and no Jews – it’s Judenrein.

SJP emulates the language and values of HAMAS. For this reason and because of the extreme anti-Israel and anti-Jewish hatred displayed by the chapter members, SJP is more accurately labeled “Hamas on Campus.”

SJP chapters on college campuses sponsor events like “Israel Apartheid Week,” disrupt pro-Israel events, and are the primary agitators pushing anti-Israel BDS resolutions introduced to student governments. SJP chapters have created hostile and intimidating campus environments for Jewish students. SJP prides itself on bringing conflict and divisiveness to college campuses along with using a well-financed disinformation campaign that spreads their hatred towards Jews and Israel.

Does Vanderbilt invite Jew hatred?

Vanderbilt actively recruits international students. Recent data from “Open Doors on International Education Exchange” shows that annually several thousand students from places like the Palestinian territories, Iran, Yemen, Qatar, Kuwait and Lebanon, for example, attend U.S. universities.

They are all Muslim majority countries, some of which promote hatred of Jews and Israel. Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the Muslim Brotherhood spiritual leader who died last year at age 96, supported Palestinian suicide bombings, was based in Qatar. Saudi Arabia follows the strictest form of sharia law which prohibits Jews from being citizens. Iran is behind the recent Hamas massacre of Israelis and supplies Hezbollah operatives in Lebanon with weapons so they can attack Israelis and Jews. 

So, what ideology do these students bring with them? Do they gravitate more to student groups like the MSA, SJP and the Middle Eastern Students Association? Homegrown in Waverly, Tennessee, Samar Ali co-founded the Middle Eastern Students Association at Vanderbilt because as she said, “I will always be Arab and I will always be American and I will always be Muslim….My parents always taught us to never forget where we came from and to never forget where we are now.” This sounds eerily similar to the motives behind the anti-Israel work of her father’s Jerusalem Fund organization here, here and here for example. 

Vanderbilt and every campus that has an SJP chapter must ask itself whether a group tied to HAMAS, a U.S. designated terrorist organization, can be chartered under any school’s rules for student organizations. Can public money be allowed to flow to these groups? Should private money be permitted to enable these groups?

In true leftist-progressive fashion, Vanderbilt made Christian campus groups unwelcome by enforcing the zero tolerance all-comers’ policy. While the SJP chapter at Vanderbilt quietly faded away, if some form of it reemerges with the administration’s support, will Jews at Vanderbilt be the next group to have to leave?

Tennessee Muslims With Radical Anti Jew/ Pro Palestine Activists

  In the past few years, Muslims across Tennessee including Nashville, have supported, aligned with and appeared with well known radical Palestinian Jew haters. Many of these Muslims often speak of how they are victims. Today, the question must be asked do they stand with those same radical Palestinians?

Who is Linda Sarsour?

Sarsour, is the head of the Arab American Association of NY (AAANY). She was born in New York after her parents, both Palestinians from the West Bank, immigrated to the U.S. still Identifying herself as a Palestinian-American, Sarsour’s platform of victimhood is two-fold: alleged abuses of Palestinians by Israel and American discrimination and Islamophobia directed at Muslims in the U.S.

Sarsour seeks out any and all opportunities to spread her Jew hatred. She founded “Muslims for Ferguson” once the riots started. Collaborating with Black Lives Matter (BLM), Dream Defenders, American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), CAIR and others, she helped turn the Ferguson protests into an anti-Israel rally.

 Sarsour spoke at AMP’s conference confirming her “unequivocal” support for the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment & Sanctions (BDS) movement, and her disdain for Muslims who interface with pro-Israel Jews. AMP is a national extremist anti-Israel organization that helps train and support the college hate group, Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP). 

She also sits on the advisory board of Dream Defenders (DD). One of DD’s founding members is Ahmad Abuznaid, another Palestinian. Unlike Sarsour who was born in New York, Abuznaid was born in East Jerusalem. He serves as DD’s legal and policy director.

Not surprisingly, DD asserts solidarity with Palestinians. Members of BLM and DD traveled to the “occupied” territories to spend time with a convicted terrorist who had served 17 years in an Israeli prison for planting bombs. Since that trip, DD has aligned more closely with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, an organization that that advocates armed resistance whose members in the past have hijacked airplanes.

Nihad Awad, Executive Director of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) calls for Arabs to hit the streets to demonstrate for Palestine

Several years ago, Awad admitted CAIR stands with Hamas movement. CAIR has been allowed to grow within the United States, and is seen as the nations largest Muslim civil rights organization.

TGA House Democrat Says It’s Not Necessarily the Guns…

In an April interview, titled “America has a God, Not a Gun Problem” Tennessee General Assembly House member Joe Towns, a Democrat from Memphis, sounds like he either hasn’t read or doesn’t agree with the ideological talking points being used by the Justins and other members of the House Democrat Caucus when it comes to what they call “gun violence”.

As the interview moves along from the expulsion of the two Justins, Rep. Towns says:

“Those issues that they’re talking about everybody’s concerned with those issues. Truly people don’t know what the hell to do. Folks don’t know how to stop people and it’s not necessarily guns that’s doing the hurt and the harm in our community. What you have in this country is a heart problem.”

Towns says the “heart problem” is about hate and all the terrible things that come from it.

Regarding violent crime in Memphis, Rep.Towns believes that “most of the killing is being done by children today, 13, 16, 18, 20” and refers to “recent statistics that show that most violent crime is being committed by juveniles.”

And he again emphasizes that “it’s not just one thing, it’s not just guns”.

In the case of Nikki Goeser’s murdered husband, it was a person with mental illness.

During Thursday’s floor session, Majority Leader William Lamberth, sponsor of HB7003, explained that his bill would allow for lifetime orders of protection from felons convicted of violent crimes which would now include aggravated stalking.

Lamberth referenced Nikki Goeser’s situation to explain why his bill should become law.

Nikki’s husband was murdered in front of her in a Nashville restaurant. At the time, the law did not allow concealed carry permit holders to bring their firearm into an establishment serving alcohol. “While [Nikki] obeyed the law, Ben’s murderer did not. While in prison, the man who murdered Nikki’s husband Ben, continued to stalk her by writing letters from prison and yet, earned an early prison release because of “good behavior credits”. In July, he received an additional sentence in federal court for stalking, tacking on an additional year of prison time.

Rep. Carringer (R-Knoxville) stood to voice support for Lamberth’s bill while also thanking Nikki who is her constituent, for her efforts with bills like HB7003.

Rep. Joe Towns also stood in support of Nikki and passionately described his disgust about what happened to her and her husband. Towns said he knew Nikki and worked with her at the capitol where she was on staff; he clearly thought highly of her and his sincerity about what happened to her should not be questioned.

Towns described seeing Nikki’s “broken-heartedness after her husband was murdered” and as he continued, he became visibly worked up, saying it is:

…unconscionable, unthinkable to have to deal with a sap-sucker harassing you after something like that. What I think is happening today is you’re saving two lives because in some situations in neighborhoods, if you’re stalking my sister or my mother you won’t need the police – okay, because there are some of us that would so something to you about messing with our families. So you savin’ two lives by doing this [bill]. You can take that anyway you want to I don’t care how you take it. I’m just letting you know what the facts are okay with me and mine. Don’t mess with me and mine….it’s unconscionable and unpardonable to terrorize a woman after you murder somebody in their family. The police are slow there are some people who’ll get to you before the police get to you…

Rep. Towns sounded like he was in favor of using “street justice” which The Free Dictionary defines as “the punishment given by members of the public to people regarded as criminals or wrongdoers”.

So, “it’s not just guns”.

TN Association of School Librarians – educators or political activists? – Part 4

This year, the “Banned Books Week” political campaign pushed by the three-tier library associations – the American Library Association (ALA), the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and the TN Association of School Librarians (TASL), is scheduled to begin on October 1, 2023.

TASL’s website continues to include Banned Books Week in its political advocacy menu which showcases school library “banned book” displays.

The AASL has expanded the week’s advocacy to include “Banned Websites Awareness Day” complete with resources to support the political agenda of school librarians and AASL state chapters like TASL.

The “Teach Truth” political campaign promoted by TASL

Protesting against state Critical Race Theory (CRT) legislation, including Tennessee’s, several organizations launched the “Teach Truth” campaign:

Lawmakers in at least 15 states are attempting to pass legislation that would require teachers to lie to students about the role of racism, sexism, heterosexism, and oppression throughout U.S. history. In response, educators across the United States are signing a pledge to teach the truth.

The “Teach Truth Pledge” campaign was launched in 2021, led by the Zinn Education Project. The “pledge” which educators across the country were asked to sign states:

Along with signing the pledge, A “Teach Truth” day of action was planned in cities across the U.S. including one in Memphis.

The “Teach the Truth” political campaign was organized by The Zinn Education Project (which is coordinated by Rethinking Schools and Teaching for Change), Black Lives Matter at School, and the African American Policy Forum.

The Zinn Education Project is named after Howard Zinn, author of A People’s History of the United States, a book which is often included on school reading lists and which has been criticized for it’s anti-American bias. Bill of Rights Institute President David Bobb, described Zinn as a “Marxist-inspired historian”… whose “arguments tend to divide, not unite, embitter rather than heal.”  Sam Wineberg, a Stanford University professor whose research looks at how history is taught, learned and why students decide to believe what they believe, has also critiqued Zinn’s history book.

Regardless, both critics and admirers of Zinn’s work agree that his People’s History book is written from a dedicated bias. 

In keeping with Howard Zinn’s alternative narrative of U.S. history, the Zinn Education Project provides materials that teachers can use to teach from a social justice perspective, resources for progressive classroom lessons and progressive book reviews, a clearinghouse for political activity as it relates to teachers and classroom instruction, and conferences in furtherance of the Project’s goals.  All materials are based on Zinn’s viewpoint of U.S. history as offered in his book.

Rethinking Schools, Teaching for Change, Black Lives Matter at School and the African American Policy Forum were also part of the “Teach Truth” political campaign.

Rethinking Schools describes itself as “the preeminent publisher of social justice education materials in the United States”. Rethinking Schools met with Tennessee teachers to discuss how these teachers interpreted Tennessee’s CRT legislation and published in a piece titled The Chilling Effects of So-Called Critical Race Theory Bans.

Teaching for Change says it is about “building social justice starting in the classroom”.

Black Lives Matter at School organizes for “racial justice in education” which, according to its website, promotes “radical education policy resources”. This summer high school students were offered a virtual “Summer Freedom School”, described as “an alternative fugitive space for learning. A space where high school students can gain access to Black scholars and leaders and have a chance to unlearn the lies and re-learn the truths of Black history.” 

A Black Lives Matter at School founding member who teaches high school students in Seattle says, “you can’t understand our country without understanding racism and its intersections with sexism and heterosexism”.

While it is not clear who produces materials disseminated or promoted by Black Lives Matter at School organizers, a staff writer at The Atlantic raises the question about the materials – or as he puts it, “the line between education and indoctrination”. Not all Black parents are on board with the curriculum offered by Black Lives Matter at School.

The African American Policy Forum’s goal is to “dismantle structural inequality” using an intersectional framework to tie together “race, gender, class, and the array of barriers that disempower those who are marginalized in society”.

TASL and the “Teach Truth” book list

TASL did its part to push the “Teach Truth” political campaign by partnering with the following groups and promoting a “Teach Truth Book List”:

  • The Bottom Knox – which among other things, hosts a Black-affirming book shop

TASL’s Teach Truth book list includes selections for elementary, middle and high school students as well as adult readers. An Ibram X Kendi selection is included for each level and group of readers. Kendi is considered one of the most vocal proponents of the elements that comprise critical race theory. Author of How to Be an Antiracist, doesn’t appear to believe that white people cannot not be racist. In 2020, he wrote in a tweet that, “[i]t is a belief too many White people have: if they have or adopt a child of color, then they can’t be racist.”
